Memoleaf

Tuesday, March 14, 2006
I think that the latest beta of Memoleaf has tipped me securely into the Cyberpoche group. I can use the tag bank now to add multiple tags at the start of a new memo. I've got templates set up for the most common formats. And I've pulled in a few ideas from the Emacs programs I've been working with. I have a Task Pool, which is stuff that needs to be done but not at any particular time. I can tag those with a context tag. It functions like an Inbox and I can use it as needed. At some point, I may switch this around if I need to break it down more. I'm using using diary memos. These get date stamped and I will jot down a call I made or any info that I want to record. Appointments go in a memo as well. I'm using WeekDA to add a week number, if that makes more sense than a date stamp.

I'm using pedit for my memos, although I could do most of this with something simplier. Since I have the 4k memo limit, I like having the p32 database for reference materials. JPilot can read p32 memos, which gives me a handy way to sync larger documents. I reinstalled MobileNote, as a way to gather memos for a quick review. It's easy to review my projects, since these all have wiki names and are all linked on a weekly review page. There are things like appointments that I'd like to be reminded of and I wanted something more colorful than looking at the This Week category.

There's another part of the system that is working nicely and that's my Pay Bills log. I used memos for this before and forgot how handy it was. I have a Pay Bills memo for each month. When the bill comes in, I put an entry in Accounts and Loans, with the date to pay it. I use the Remind Me feature and put the info into a memo. I go to that memo and cut the info, then past it into the Pay Bills memo. Then I use Calc on Top to do a total and copy and paste that info at the top of the memo. This way, I have a running total for the bills I need to pay that month. I delete the ANL created reminder when I'm done. As I pay the bills, I mark them with an x.

I suppose, when I've used this system a bit longer, I should at least post some examples here. I still need to go through a few more reviews first and make some decisions on the Linux side. And I definitely need new tape for my labeller! Managed to pack my spare and discovered that I'd actually run out.
