our home
Here are some pictures of our home. For a long time, we lived in the
Columbia River Gorge, in Stevenson. It was a very long drive to work--90 miles
round trip each day. When my grandmother died, I came into a small inheritance.
I was finally able to pursue our dream of owning our own home.
It's a modest place. It's just 880 square feet total space. It was built in
1941. Shortly after we bought it, an old woman stopped by. Her mom and sisters
had built the house. She asked to see it again. She was quite surprised at how
small it seemed now. When she was a child, she thought it was a big old farm house.
We are surrounded by homes with small acreage. We have a third of an acre. It's
enough for us to keep a few geese. We have rabbits too and plan to build a shed for
them this year. We are still working on creating a garden space and hope to have some
fruit trees and bushes some day.
We are trying to settle into our home slowly. We've only been here three years. I know
it's fashionable now to have a large home and quickly turn it into a showcase. We continue
to add as we go. When we were looking for our home, I felt like I would never find the right
place for us. This is a house that suits us.
